![]() Skywalker used this X-wing extensively during the Thrawn campaign. The starfighter's computer systems molded them to R2's unique personality, and this allowed them to function at computational speeds rivaling dedicated counterpart encryption computers-but it also prevented any attempts by technicians to run diagnostics on the fighter without R2's assistance. Either through his relationship with Leia Organa Solo or the New Republic's desire to maintain good relations with the last of the Jedi, Skywalker was able to avail himself of New Republic repair and maintenance resources.īy 9 ABY, R2-D2 had developed a close working relationship with this ship's flight computer due to Skywalker's refusal to let technicians perform any type of memory wipe on his astromech droid or his starfighter, despite the standard operating procedure of the New Republic Defense Fleet calling for this to be done every few months. The New Republic allowed Luke Skywalker to retain the use of X-wing AA-589 after he resigned his commission as a commander in the New Republic Defense Fleet in 5 ABY. He had flown no less than five such fighters over the course of his career with the Rebellion and New Republic, culminating in his use of one designated AA-589. The model is designed, indeed aimed at junior modellers but that shouldn’t put anyone off, there’s potential here for creating a good model of a Resistance X-Wing Fighter from The Clone Wars.Ī gentle dry-fit of parts shows that everything should go together well – remember, these are push-fit kits and designed not to come apart again – different to normal kits in this respect.Luke Skywalker had been an X-wing pilot since he joined the Rebel Alliance and served at the Battle of Yavin as Red Five. The surfaces should look good under paint, washes and general weathering. As you may have read, we’ll do this with a number of these Revell ‘Easy Kits’. Personally, I would want to get the model together and then clean up any joins etc before applying my own paint finish and that’ll be the subject of the build we’ll run in SMN – taking an entry-level ‘Easy Kit’ and making more of it and certainly trying to get the best out of the box contents. The model actually comes with some paint applied as I say and this isn’t usually well done and here is ok on this model. The model offers a simple breakdown of parts that are quite well moulded and painted in light grey base with blue panels giving the model a heavy, weighty feel but that doesn’t detract from the finesse of the detail that is cleanly moulded and generally well-defined. This kit was released in 2010 and I have to admit we have had it a while waiting for the launch of the Sci-Fi/Space Area in SMN that you can see is now live :) Let the builds begin!! Closer look at this kit Here are the basic stats for this release: Photo courtesy Star Wars Databank A note from Geoff During the assault on Starkiller Base, Poe Dameron flies a customised, dark-hulled X-wing under the call sign Black Leader. ![]() The credit-strapped Resistance relies on X-wings donated or lent by sympathetic New Republic senators and local security forces. Faster than the Alliance-era T-65s, Resistance X-wings are manoeuvrable enough to engage TIE fighters in dogfights, but powerful enough to take down capital ships. The Incom T-70 X-wing is the latest incarnation of a classic design, and the signature combat craft of the Resistance’s Starfighter Corps.
